In spring, 2009, the Town of Milton hired consultants to complete an Intensification / Infill Study to address the requirements of the Province's Places to Grow Plan. The purpose of the Study is to establish a more detailed planning framework for the Town's Provincially-designated Urban Growth Centre and its designated Built Boundary. The Province of Ontario requires that intensification take place within these designated areas in order to promote sustainable development patterns and complete communities. Through the Intensification / Infill Study, the consulting team was to determine how the Town could best plan to accommodate the required intensification in a manner which is sensitive to the existing community.
A Public Workshop was held on June 24, 2009 to introduce the project and to provide local residents and landowners/developers an opportunity to offer opinions on where this required growth should and should not occur and what other issues should be taken into account within the Study. The presentation from this Public Workshop can be seen at:
A Public Open House was held on November 4, 2009 to show the Study's initial finding. The presentation and panels that were on shown at this event can be seen at:
The Draft Intensification / Infill Study Report was received by the Town on January 25, 2010. It details the consultants' recommendations and includes suggestions for revising the Town's Official Plan. The Study will be considered at the Town Council meeting on February 22, 2010. If Council concurs with the recommendations of the Study, it will then be used as a basis for the development of intensification policies to be incorporated into the Town's Official Plan through a future amendment.
